Service or Menace? Pit Bulls skirt law by being used as Service Dogs. A growing group of pit bull owners says the animals are ideal service dogs -- a designation that exempts them from Miami-Dade's ban of the breed, which some say is instinctively dangerous. To read more click HERE.

MCABSL Response to the Miami Herald Article ran on Pit Bulls and Service Dogs: Dear Board Members, Members and dog lovers: The Miami Herald recently ran an article about “pit bulls” used as service dogs in Miami Dade County despite the ban on dogs that animal control officers believe look like “pit bulls”. We would like to clarify some statements made in the article and correct others. Read more HERE.
MCABSL OFFICIALLY ENDORSES MIMI PLANAS FOR MIAMI-DADE COUNTY COMMISSIONER, DISTRICT 10!

It is our pleasure on behalf of our Board Members, our members, dogs, cats, and all sentient beings…to endorse Myriam “Mimi” Planas, for District 10.
An animal lover herself, Mimi has witnessed first hand the issues that confront us in our quest for compassion for our animals and, we feel, deserves both our support and endorsement for County Commissioner. Mimi would be replacing an aggressive, anti pro-animal legislation Commissioner, who has consistently voted against increasing the budget for Miami Dade Animal Services, strong supporter for BSL or the Pit Bull Ban and other numerous similar issues. Mimi is our candidate!

Pit Bulls on Parade was an awesome event! MCABSL will be joining forces with Ernie Sims next year in efforts to bring education and awarness to these wonderful animals

TWO Thumbs up for Beyond The Myth Premier. This was a true stepping stone for MCABSL and our efforts in educating the public on BSL..We are truly grateful for being in this film and would like to thank Libby Sherrill for the amazing opportunity in doing so. For those of you who made out on June 12th thank you for supporting the film. Pictures of the event are coming soon! - MCABSL
Wow!!! The premier of Beyond The Myth at the Colony Theater in Miami was incredible! To see it on the big screen and hear the reactions of the audience was amazing. It was moving and educational. People were so touched and also incensed by the reality of BSL. - Kimber Cleveland.
It was a wonderful night with great people and the film was very well received!- Libby Sherrill.
Due to popular demand, MCABSL will be hosting another live MMA demonstration! MCABSL and Evolution Mixed Martial Arts & Fitness Center are proud to announce the planning of another MMA fundraiser to benefit the fight against BSL. After a huge turnout and many requests, we will be hosting another MMA event. The date is yet to be announced but we'll keep everyone posted on any changes. The Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation would like to thank everyone on behalf of all the Board Members and Pitties everywhere...we would like to express our thanks for a tremendous turn out and support to our 2nd Annual BBQ PIT event that took place this past Sunday the 12th of June at C.B. Smith Park. Everyone showed up and had a quality time w/ other Pittie /dog lovers and their 4 footed family members. For most of these dogs...it was a rare opportunity to socialize, relax and breathe freedom away from the Miami Dade County Pit Bull Ban. We had folks come from everywhere in the State of Florida. We would like to thank Robbie Coy and Grace Acosta for being there w/ their organizations and supporting our efforts and MCABSL. The staff for C.B. Smith Park, was as always extremely cooperative w/ our requests! Next year..bigger and better yet! -Dahlia/Edel Directors of MCABSL
UPDATE:The state of Florida was under attack with a proposal to remove the legislation that protects cities and Counties against BSL! Florida State Representative, Perry E. Thurston, Jr. has filed House Bill 543, to repeal the state's prohibition on BreedSpecificLegislation. An identical Senate version, S.B. 1276, has also been filed by Florida State Senator, Tony Hill, Jr. MCABSL took a firm and expedient stand against these proposed bills. Dahlia Canes, our Director, personally flew to Tallahassee, Fl., and met with Senator Tony Hill and the Senators on the Agricultural Committee, who were scheduled to hear this Bill. Dahlia was joined in these "closed off meetings", by Mr. Ernie Sims, Sr. and Ms. Pat Mixon. The outcome was a complete success. As a direct result of these meetings, at this time, the 1276 Bill is NOT scheduled to be heard by the Agricultural Committee, thus the 1276 Bill has offcially died. Your participation was critical and once again, our members and associates came thru. All breeds of dogs today...can rest a little easier. Click here to view MCABSL's letter to Senator Hill.

A BOOK ABOUT A PITBULL THAT WILL HAVE YOU CHEERING! Ruby the Pit bull and I are excited to announce the book we’ve worked on steadily for the past ten months has been accepted by a publisher. They have put “RUBY’S Tale” on the “fast track” for release in July or August. Come mid-June, you’ll be able to order your own copy at her web...site! Later it will be available at Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com and other book stores as well. The book will includes lots of color pictures and will come in at around $14.95
Visit Ruby’s fun website to find out more …. www.rubystales.com
RUBY’S Tales is not being promoted as a book about a Pit Bull, but rather about the incredible life of a wonderful dog that just happens to be a Pit bull. And while Ruby is a great dog, she’s not the exception to the breed. In promoting the book this way, we hope to get the book in non-Pittie owners hands too. Once they’re into the story, they’re hooked! It’s way more book then you expect…
Drop Ruby a note if you like. Tell her that you want your name on the “Early Bird’ list for a book. When you let her know your interest in ordering “RUBY’S Tales”, it will help ensure you’ll get your copy as soon as they are available.
